What is Anxiety and When is it a problem?

Anxiety in mild form is totally normal and a part of life as a human. However, sometimes feeling anxious can seep its way into parts of our day that are completely irrational, holding us back from doing things in life we love and being who we truly are.

I’ve often felt I am a confident person trapped in an anxious person’s body.

When the feeling of anxiety is getting in the way of everyday life it’s time to do something to change it. First off, go and speak to your GP as a medical opinion is always helpful and it’s best to be safe and explore all options with a trained professional.

However, the products I have listed here today are ones I have personally tried and tested for my own issues with Anxiety.

I personally find treating anxiety holistically is the best way, but remember we are all unique individuals and we must listen to our bodies and do what is right for us.

Trial and error is always a part of finding the right fit.

What are the symptoms of Anxiety?

Anxiety can show itself in many ways, often through:

  • Sweating

  • Over worrying

  • Irrational thoughts

  • Rapid breathing

  • Over or under-eating

  • High heart rate

  • Trouble sleeping

Anxiety relief from weighted blanket

Weighted blankets are a game changer in Anxiety relief and getting a good night’s sleep!

When sleeping or simply lying down to meditate, a weighted blanket can instantly provide comfort and relaxation.

Having the weight hugging your body helps to lower your heart rate and slow your breathing to a restful, relaxing rhythm.

One thing to keep in mind is they offer different weights that are recommended based on your own weight.

Light therapy lamp SAD lamp

Light therapy lamps have been proven to help calm anxiety, improve mood, reset your circadian rhythm to improve sleep, and even increase your energy and focus levels.

For best results sit near your lamp within the first hour of waking up, grab yourself a coffee, and read a chapter of your favorite book while you soak up the light.

It is recommended to use between 20 and 60 minutes so whether you’re having a quick cup of tea before leaving for work or chilling on the sofa for an hour, you can make it work for you.

This has definitely helped me, I personally found it helpful on days I knew I was going to be feeling anxious about something I would wake up 30 minutes earlier, sit in bed with it on, and do a guided meditation through an Insight Timer.

CBD oil in simple terms gives your Serotonin a boost that helps to improve mood and relieve anxiety.

There are different strengths available as well as flavoured, however, I have used the standard and peppermint flavoured and to be honest I would happily have either.

For me, it would come down to price over taste as it’s a few tiny drops, not enough to savour the flavour. Although I would add quality does play a part here.

Aromatherapy Diffuser

Aromatherapy has been used to heal for thousands of years.

Aromatherapy Diffusers are a great way to not only have an amazing smelling house but calm your anxiety without having to consciously do anything.

Scents such as Lavender and Camomile are regularly used in lowering heart rate and calming the nervous system.

Having a different scent in the morning and in the evening is a great way to send signals to the body to slow down and relax.

Once you get used to the signal of feeling calm when smelling these scents introducing roll-on oils are perfect to carry around to use whenever you feel anxious.

Nature to the rescue once more.

St. Johns Wort extract and Rhodiola rosea root extract are both traditional herbal products that are often used to relieve stress, anxiety, and low mood.

There are many supplements out there claiming to help anxiety, these are just two I have personally tried and had positive results from, and have given me anxiety relief.

The two I brought are from Holland and Barratt.
