Getting over Summer and Embracing the New Season

Summer seems like it is on the way out after not really having much of a summer at all.

The days are getting shorter, the evenings looking darker and the mornings feeling colder.

This is the time of year when I start to feel a dip in my mood that dominoes throughout my day.

I start finding it that little bit harder to get out of bed in the mornings, my appetite changes, my motivation seems to be crawling along the floor and I have a constant craving for sunlight on my face.

It’s not quite peak SAD Season but it’s definitely getting close.

This is why it is the best time to start putting actions into place to make sure your happiness and motivation doesn’t go down with the sun each evening.

If you haven’t read my posts on Seasonal Affective Disorder or Beating the Holiday Blues then go give them a look over. There are tips and advice on how to prevent and manage the feelings and effects of the end of summer and embrace the new season.

Now I am a summer lover. I like all the seasons in moderation but I crave warmth and sunshine.

However here in the UK we don’t tend to have much of a summer so accepting that fact is essential in avoiding moping around for most of the year.

Get Excited about the New Season

Here are a few ways to get excited about the new season and boost your mood.

  • Head over to Pinterest and save a bunch of seasonal recipes

  • If you have kids or even if you don’t.. do seasonal activities. Collecting conkers and roasting chestnuts are the autumn favs.

  • Decorate the house with seasonal scented candles and cozy blankets.

  • Have an event to look forward to. Halloween, Fireworks, scarecrow trails, etc.

  • Watch seasonal movies.

Look at the new season as a new start, a new opportunity to challenge your mind and embrace the change.

Be kind to yourself

We all experience highs and lows in life. We all need to take break and learn to be kinder to ourselves so give yourself a break.

Take the time to enjoy the simple pleasures that autumn offers: warm drinks, reading by the fire, or walks through the vibrant foliage. These moments of connection with ourselves and the world can reignite our passion and motivate us to chase after our dreams.

Embrace the new season, allow it to inspire you to move forward with purpose and joy, carrying the essence of the season into all that you do.

Remember, each new beginning is not only an ending but also a chance to start a fresh. Enjoy this journey, and may it be as rich and colourful as the leaves around you.
