Why you should travel solo

  • People travel alone for many different reasons, but, I believe the most beneficial, is the experiences you gain from traveling solo that you just wouldn’t get when traveling with someone else.

  • Traveling alone feels so liberating, especially for those for are more nervous and anxious so if traveling alone scares you, you 100 % should go for it!

  • Everyone is on their own journey in life, discovering who they are and where they fit into this world. Traveling solo will change your view of the world as well as your view of yourself and what you are capable of.

  • The confidence and self-esteem you will gain from solo travel are amazing. Learning to trust yourself and make decisions on your own, for yourself, is a life skill we all need more practice in.

  • Follow your own path. Wake up in the morning and go where you want to go, go to that restaurant you want to go to, and plan your days doing exactly what you like when you like.

  • Get out of your comfort zone. Nothing new or exciting ever happens in your comfort zone, to experience new things, learn, and challenge ourselves we have to push ourselves to give things a go, feel the discomfort, and embrace it.

  • Making new friends. Traveling solo is a great way to meet new people, new people who you might not otherwise have spoken to. If traveling alone isn’t for you or you want to travel solo but with the support of a group then solo travel package holidays might be for you. More about those below.

Staying safe when Traveling Solo

Staying safe when traveling alone is probably one of the most searched questions and likely the main reason a lot of people only ever travel with close friends or family. Traveling alone has actually increased a lot in recent years with *84% being female solo travelers.

*According to condorferries travel statistics data 2023.
  1. I would say most importantly research the country you are visiting, and get clued up on any cultural or religious expectations as well as the basic laws.

  2. Knowing how and who to call in the case of an emergency.

  3. Learn or have to hand basic phrases in the local language.

  4. Tell someone where you are going. Letting a family or friend know your location and travel plans can be extremely helpful in an emergency as well as peace of mind.

  5. Be aware of Scams and Pickpockets. This is common in a lot of tourist destinations, we’ve all been caught out at some point unfortunately but it’s enough to make sure it doesn’t happen again!

  6. Carry a small portable battery pack in case your phone dies, which is always a possibility when using online maps and taking photos of new places all day. Giving you peace of mind knowing you can still use your phone to contact someone and find your way back.
