Get out of your comfort zone - Travel edition
All-inclusive resorts are great BUT nothing can compare to the great outdoors, the unknown, and the adventure of exploring.
Get out of your comfort zone and really travel.
Getting out of your Comfort Zone
You don’t have to go all in expeditionist and simply book a plane ticket with nothing but a backpack, but you can challenge yourself to step outside the comfort of your norm, in terms of where and what type of place you travel to.
I love camping but for some reason until a few years ago, camping had only ever been something I considered in the UK.
Booking a campsite or caravan in another country just never occurred to me, I saw holidays abroad as a “luxury” and that meant treating myself to an apartment or resort where I didn’t have to worry about learning the local language or cooking my own dinner!
Having just written that I see how totally boring, unadventurous, and completely unlike me that is! I think I just followed the types of holidays abroad I had growing up and didn’t think anything of it.. until recently.
I now see how many different options there are when it comes to travel and how we can experience a new culture and country.
How To Immerse yourself in the culture
Learn the language or at least a few basic phrases
Apps like Duolingo are free and easy to pick up the basics quickly.
Learning even a simple Hello and Thankyou can really help in connecting with people and showing respect and care for the language and culture.
Utilise Public transport
Not only does it serve the local community but you feel a part of it.
You can see a lot more of the local area and go through places you might have otherwise over looked.
Local attractions
Search Google Maps to find less-known places.
Sites are popping up all over the place with ‘hidden gems’ where you can find less (or previously less) known places, however, I’d encourage you to challenge yourself, engage in conversation with a local, get chatting, and see if they can recommend any places for you to visit.
Do as the Locals do
Try the local cuisine, eat out at the local corner cafe, and explore the community around you.
Keep an open mind and try things you wouldn’t usually go for.
